The president, occupation Safety and Health Association, UK-Nigeria Region, His Royal Highness,HRH. DR. Olusegun Aderemi said womenfolk remains crucial for accelerated and sustained development in the world due to their pivotal roles n Nation building

Dr. Aderemi spoke during a high level political forum on sustainable development at 1010 avenue, New York, United state of America where he delivered the keynote address with the theme ” Breaking barrier: women leading the way to a sustainable future” he maintained that available statistics proof women can not be relegated to the ‘kitchen’ if sustained development will be attained.

According to him, Women has shown high level of result-driving attributes in areas of leadership even more than their male counterpart, thus, should be accorded necessary respect.

In his word ” Records have shown that despite some challenges, women have not reneged in aiding business transformations and driving innovation in countless fields. Research has also alluded to the fact that companies with more women in leadership positions tend to be more successful, and women-owned businesses are more likely to prioritize social and environmental issues. At least most of the key domestic entrepreneurial skills like, hair plating, sewing, basket making, weaving, eatery services, arable farming etc which takes care of more than 40% of global population residing in both local and urban areas are predominantly handled by women”

However, despite important role women play in actualization of sustained development with pointer to US secretary general report to Security Council which referred women leadership and participation in peace building a “prerequisite for the fulfillment of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.” women has continue to face challenges which hinder them in discharging their duties as an agent of Nation building among which include, gender inequality, finance, cultural belief among others. He therefore appealed that such hindrance should be given rapt attention.

“However, issues of culture needed be revisited with women in focus by removing some estranged barriers that frustrate their participation. Companies can help by implementing policies and practices that support women’s advancement, providing mentorship and sponsorship opportunities, enabling access to training and development programs, and promoting an inclusive and safe work environment. Taking proactive steps to support women can lead to a more positive and supportive such that benefits everyone in the organization. By prioritizing ESG and women-supportive initiatives, companies can contribute to improved financial performance and increased social impact” he said.
