A coalition of women in Ogun State has thrown its weight behind the governorship ambition of Oladipupo Adebutu, offering cash support to assist in the purchase of his nomination form under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The women, operating under the LADO Special Programme, presented the support during a meeting in Abeokuta. The group—comprising civil servants, teachers, nurses, and professionals from various sectors—declared full backing for Adebutu ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Chairperson Mrs. Abimbola Adeleye said their decision followed extensive consultations and a careful assessment of the political landscape. She noted that their endorsement was driven by a desire for credible leadership and sustainable development in the state.
At the gathering held in Kuto, Abeokuta, Adeleye described Adebutu as a visionary leader with a strong commitment to grassroots development. She added that his longstanding support for community growth and women-focused initiatives earned him the trust of many across the state.
The group stressed that their support transcends party lines, emphasizing competence, integrity, and capacity as key considerations. They also highlighted Adebutu’s advocacy for women’s empowerment and girl-child development as major factors behind their endorsement.
According to Adeleye, the movement is made up of development-focused women united by a shared goal of shaping a better future for Ogun State. She revealed that the group has pledged to mobilise support across all 20 local government areas, projecting at least 30,000 votes in favour of Adebutu.
Director of LADO Special Programme, Mr. Oluseye Afolabi, commended the women for their commitment and urged them to go beyond verbal support by actively participating in the electoral process.
In his response, Adebutu expressed appreciation for the show of confidence, assuring that women would play a central role in his administration if elected. He disclosed plans to pick a female running mate for the 2027 race, noting that efforts were underway to identify a capable candidate.
He also encouraged the women to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and mobilise others to do the same, stressing the importance of active civic participation in achieving meaningful political change.
Also speaking, Ambassador Folake Marcus Bello praised the women for their bold stance, noting that their support reflects a growing demand for credible leadership beyond material inducements.
The group concluded by calling on stakeholders to support candidates with genuine commitment to service, insisting that Ogun State deserves purposeful, inclusive, and people-oriented leadership.
