Muslim Begins Ramadan Fasting

Following the sight of Ramadan crescent moon discovered in Saudi Arabia on Friday evening,the Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, His Eminence Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III has announced the commencement of Ramadan fasting on Saturday, April 2.

The sight of Ramadan crescent moon signalled the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan in which this year’s 2022 falls to Saturday, April 2, , according to an official announcement from Council.

The Sultan made the announcement in a broadcast on the Nigerian Television Authority, NTA.

 

As the Ramadan begins today,Saturday, Muslims are expected to abstain from eating, drinking or smoking from 5.30am till 7pm.

 

Muslims follow a lunar calendar consisting of 12 months in a year of 354 or 355 days. Sighting a crescent moon heralds the start of Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar.The first night of Taraweeh prayers is observed in Haramain after Isha.
