FG has approved Constant Recruitment in Nig. Police to Tackle Shortage of Manpower for effective Policing – DIG Alabi

 

The Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the South West, DIG Abiodun Alabi said the Federal government has approved regular recruitment in the Nigeria police to curb shortage of manpower affecting the system.

The DIG stated that the decision would enable the police to effectively tackle crime and all forms of security challenges affecting the country.

He added that issue on shortage of manpower is a common problem in the six geopolitical zones, but the situation would be tackled when more hands are engaged in the police.

The DIG spoke on Monday during his visit to the police command in Ekiti state to conclude his tour in the South West .
Alabi said the visit was at the instance of the Inspector General of police, Adeolu Egbetokun who gave directives to the DIGs to visit all states in their territories to interact with the personnells , know their challenges and bring him the feedback for possible solutions

“Manpower problem is as old as we are, but with constant recruitment of police, we shall overcome. Federal government in its magnanimity is encouraging us on constant recruitment.

“ Man power problem is peculiar to all states in all zones but with constant recruitment we shall overcome it.

“This is one of the feedback the IG is expecting from us, to solve the problems we are facing , feel the pulse of our officers on their challenge for proper address. Also, where manpower is over utilized, they can be called back .

“The IG has addressed the issue of unnecessary usage of manpower ,when we realized that there are some areas which we need to rejig redeployment ,particularly where manpower are being over utilized, they were recalled back so the issue of unnecessary waste of manpower has been addressed”.

Earlier, the Commissioner for police in , CP Akinwale Adeniran said the command under his watch has been able to tame criminal activities and the efforts has placed Ekiti to the rank of one of the peaceful states in the country

“The Command has been unarguably. adjudged as one of the most peaceful states in the country. This fact does not come by chance, but can be attributed to the commitment, dedication and dexterity of the personnel with the attendant partnership and cooperation of the good people of Ekiti state being the Fountain of Knowledge.

” I wish to intimate the DIG that the command under my leadership has successfully many times tamed the activities of criminal elements across the State, and consequently, creating an enabling environment for the good people of Ekiti State through the adoption and Implementation of the IGP’s Community Policing Strategy.”

The DIG was received by relevant stakeholders in the state which included senior police officers, representatives of PCRC, National union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Christian Association of Nigeria,CAN.
