Women SocietyTasks Mothers on close monitoring of children’s activities

President of the National Council of Women Societies (NCWS), Federal Capital Territory (FCT), chapter, Hajiya Hadiza Abdullahi Umar, has lamented the alarming rate of anti-social activities of some Nigerian youths.

Hajiya Umar made the expression in a statement highlighting the achievements of her administration.

The NCWS leader, whose tenure ends soon, bemoaned a situation where youths no longer place value on skills and other decent means of livelihood, but have inculcated the culture of pursuing wealth at all cost, not minding the legality or otherwise.

She urged parents, especially mothers, to brace up to their position as the soul of the home and change the narrative by monitoring and guiding the activities of their children.

She decried the discrimination against girls, especially those who were expelled from school due to teenage pregnancy, even when they into the situation through criminal acts like rape.Best online courses

“The culture and tradition is baffling. NCWS has been going round to sensitise the society, especially the girl-child. The education of girls and other problems that women face should be in the front burner.

“Imagine where teenagers are raped without fear, even by their parent or brothers. So this sensitisation, we have taken it upon ourselves to go to palaces, market squares, house-to-house, even to different women meetings.

“We have been calling for the girl-child to be taken proper care of. A lot of things is wrong with the society which has become painful to motherhood.

“Imagine where children of 15 to 18 years are becoming rich without anyone knowing the source of their money; so we are urging mothers to call their children to order.

“We are even planning to visit secondary school boards to advise them to allow mostly female children who were driven away for being pregnant to return to the classroom, even with their pregnancy,” she disclosed.Best online courses

On her achievements since she took over the affairs of NCWS in the FCT in 2019, Umar noted that her proudest achievement is her tireless work with the executives to change the negative condition of women in the nation’s capital, develop the chapter’s abandoned property which was supposed to contribute to the well-being of women.

“I thank God Almighty because the land which we inherited, which was dumped for the past 25 years, I am proud to say today that my tenure has made it NCWS, FCT chapter secretariat in Gwarimpa. That is one of my greatest achievements.

“If nobody praises me and my team, I will praise us. We have achieved something significant. I am proud of that,” she boasted.

On the challenges, the president said since she assumed office, finance has been one of the obstacles facing her administration, followed by lack of office accommodation.

However, she expressed gratitude to God that the challenge had been taken care of, “as we have built our secretariat in Gwarimpa.”

She also appealed for support to buy a good vehicle to ease the council’s operations, just as she called on the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike to support the council in order to elevate the status of women and alleviate their sufferings.

She also appealed to the minister to support their activities, especially those that are targeted towards children and women in the FCT.
