2027: Right now, I don’t have preferred presidential candidate- Davido

Afrobeats singer, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has distanced himself from Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke’s endorsement of President Bola Tinubu for a second term in 2027, saying he is yet to decide who to support in the next presidential election.

Davido made the remarks during an interview with News Central TV on Tuesday following the Saturday governorship election held in the State.

The singer’s comments came days after Governor Adeleke, his uncle, publicly reaffirmed support for President Tinubu following his re-election in the August 15 Osun governorship election.

Speaking after his victory, Adeleke praised the President for supporting a free and fair electoral process and declared his intention to back Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.

“At this point, I must deeply appreciate Mr President, His Excellency Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for his strong support for a free and fair election. Mr President is a son of Osun State, and I hereby reaffirm my earlier endorsement of him for a second term in the 2027 presidential election,” Adeleke had said.

However, Davido said his uncle’s endorsement does not automatically translate into his own political support for the President.

“Immediately he won, my uncle came out to declare his support for Tinubu, but as for me, I am not propelled to support anybody,” the singer said.

Davido added that he currently has no preferred presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 election, despite having openly supported former Vice President Atiku Abubakar during a previous election cycle.

The award-winning artiste stated that while his position could change before the election, he was not inclined to support the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

“Right now, I don’t have a presidential candidate. It might change but it will not be APC,” he said.

Davido played a prominent role in the campaigns leading to Governor Adeleke’s re-election.
