The Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ekiti State Council on Thursday held a welcome back ceremony for one of its members, Comrade Rotimi Ojomoyela after his 6-year meritorious service as the chairman of the state council.
In his address of welcome, the Chairman of the chapel, Raphael Ogbonaiye, hailed Ojomoyela’s meritorious service of six years (2017-2023) as the chairman of the state council for his unwavering commitment and sowing seeds of concord among journalists in the state.
In recognition of his selfless services to the council, he said the chapel is glad with the way he has piloted it for a consecutive two-term tenure.
He added that as also the former chairman of the chapel for two terms, he had contributed immersedly towards the growth and development of Correspondent.
On her part, the Vice President, NUJ B Zone, Ronke Samo acknowledged the efforts of the chapel for granting the council the opportunity to have the celebrant as its chairman.
“Rotimi Ojomoyela didn’t disappoint us, he performed excellently. Whenever we refer to his name , we mention it without regret and bitterness.” She added
In his remarks, the chairman of the state council, Comrade Kayode Babatuyi appreciated the chapel for deeming it fit to honour his predecessor after steering the wheel of the council for six years without blemish.
“For me, it’s not just the party but the mindset, spirit. The kind of spirit which will continue to promote in our midst.
“Having served in the council without blemish, I appreciate your thoughtfulness for welcoming him back to the chapel.
“To the celebrate, God helped you to serve meritoriously, God will continue to help and support you.” He added
Also, an emeritus chairman of the council and the chapel, Akogun Tai Oguntayo commended his doggedness as a former chairman of the council and the chapel.
While praying for longlife and better health, he urged Journalists in the state to celebrate themselves no matter how little they can.
In his response, Ojomoyela expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the kind gesture of the chapel.
He noted that the chapel supported him immensely during his sojourn as the chairman of the council and gave him his due respect.
While calling on the Ekiti State Government to build a befitting Press Centre for the state council, he described the chapel as the nucleus of the council that can not underrated in terms of professionalism.
“I am overwhelmed and very happy for this. You classified me as a working journalist, you always regard me.
“I am very happy, I am always conscious of the fact that I am coming from the place that had the heart of journalism.
“Correspondents’ chapel is the nucleus of NUJ, I always strive to do things. There is no excuse for failure, there must be results.”
In his goodwill message, the Ekiti State Commissioner for Information, Hon Taiwo Olatunbosun hailed the chapel for celebrating one of its own.
He described the celebrant as a courageous and great ambassador for his excellent performances as an ace Journalist.
He commended his resilience and selflessness in fighting for others, adding that he will continue to collaborate with other offices to make sure that their request comes to reality.
Also, the Special Adviser to the state governor on Media, Yinka Oyebode congratulated Ojomoyela for taking up other responsibilities after his exit as the state chairman of the council.
While commending him for passing the baton of leadership to a dependable successor, he urged him to progress in the mantra of his discipline, courage and transparency .
