The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Lagos State chapter, received a delegation from the Nigeria Girl Guides Association at the NUJ House, Iyala, Ikeja, Lagos, on June 27, 2024.

The National Public Relations Officer (PRO) Mrs.Titilola Oluwatoye of the Nigeria Girl Guides Association expressed appreciation to the NAWOJ Chairperson, executive members, and present members for taking the time to meet with them during the courtesy visit.

She emphasized that the Girl Guides Association is a voluntary organization open to individuals of all ages, qualifications, and religions who share a common goal of caring for and empowering the girl child.

The National PRO sought partnership with NAWOJ, a female body of journalists, to promote the well-being and inclusion of females in Nigerian politics. As the Nigeria Girl Guides Association prepares to mark its 105th anniversary, they have called on NAWOJ Lagos State to partner with them, leveraging their media platform to amplify the organization’s objectives and advocating for the protection and empowerment of the girl child.

Dr. Adeola Ekine, Chairperson of NAWOJ, appreciated the association’s visit, particularly during a time when criminal activities are affecting the girl child. She pledged that NAWOJ would join forces with the Nigeria Girl Guides Association to advocate for the protection and inclusion of women in positions of influence.

The Chief Commissioner, Deaconess Rhoda Olufunmilola Thomas, expressed gratitude for the warm reception by NAWOJ, which would embolden the girl child to speak out. She highlighted the potential for the collaboration between both associations to expand the knowledge and empowerment of the girl child. She then decorated the NAWOJ Chairperson with the Girl Guides scarf, symbolizing the initiation of their partnership.
