The Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development on Thursday started a two-day economic empowerment training programme for those affected by Boko Haram insurgency .
The beneficiaries are no fewer than 100 vulnerable women and girls in Yobe state.
The economic empowerment is to facilitate protection and ensure proper reintegration of women and girls affected by the Boko Haram insurgency.
Declaring the training open, the minister, Hajiya Sadiya Umar Faruq, said the humanitarian crisis in North-east Nigeria has disproportionately affected women and girls who make up 52 percent of the 1.7 million internally displaced population (NBS).
Represented by the deputy director, Social Inclusion and protection from the Ministry, Mr Peter Audu, Sadiya stated that the programme currently domicile in the ministry were designed to achieve the national objective of poverty reduction, increase resilience, promote equity and stimulate growth.
She revealed that the programme is targeted at 100 vulnerable women and girls who are drawn across Yobe state and they will be trained in marketable skills such as groundnut oil extraction, soap making, vaseline making, tailoring, perfume making and other marketable skills within their localities.
