President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sadness over the death of Hafidh Ameir Hassan, husband of Tanzania’s President, Samia Suluhu Hassan.
Tinubu, in a condolence message, described the deceased as a lifelong companion who stood quietly beside President Samia for almost five decades through different seasons of her service to Tanzania.
The Nigerian President said the loss would be deeply painful for President Samia, her children and the entire Hassan family, noting that Hafidh was a beloved father and one of the pillars of the family.
“I know what this loss means to President Samia and her family. She has lost a lifelong companion, her children a beloved father, and the family one of its pillars,” Tinubu said.
He added that a companionship spanning almost five decades becomes an integral part of a person’s life, making its loss particularly painful.
“On behalf of the Government and people of Nigeria, and on behalf of my family, I extend my deepest condolences to President Samia, her children, the Hassan family and the people of Tanzania,” he said.
Tinubu also stressed the importance of African solidarity during moments of grief, saying Nigeria mourned with Tanzania and stood with President Samia and her family.
“At moments such as this, the bonds that unite us as Africans matter even more. Nigeria mourns with Tanzania and stands with President Samia and her family in this hour of grief,” he said.
The President prayed for the eternal repose of Hafidh Ameir Hassan and asked Allah to comfort his family and grant President Samia and her children the strength to bear the loss.
“May the Almighty Allah grant Hafidh Ameir Hassan eternal rest, comfort all those he has left behind, and give President Samia and her family the strength and fortitude to bear this painful loss,” Tinubu said.
