A Lawmaker representing Emure constituency at the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Hon.Olubunmi Adelugba has identified proper taxation as a panacea to the numerous challenges bedeveling Nigeria.

Speaking with newsmen in her office, the specialist in accounting and taxation matters said “Nigerian government has created a lacuna for the citizens to bastardize and neglect the act of regular payment of taxes”

Hon. Adelugba said the lacklustre approach of government towards tax matters has allowed citizens to indulge in unauthorized activities without any punitive measures adding that government needed to do the needful by sensitizing the citizens on the need to go back to the good old days when taxes were paid by all citizens without being chased .

The lawmaker who is the current Chief Whip and Chairman Ekiti House of Assembly on Finance and Appropriation urged the federal and state government to explore the diversity and population of the country by concentrating on tax through which she assured that more would be achieved and citizens would benefit more.

Having served as advisers to some state governments in Nigeria on tax matters, Hon. Adelugba emphasized that through tax, Nigeria’s over-dependence on oil will lessen and the future of the next generation will be secured.

She advised Nigerians to also play their part by paying taxes as and when due rather than blame government for everything.
