Yobe state Governor Mai Mala Buni on Monday presented N5 million cheque to two students of Government College, Gashua Abdulhamid Maigari and Abubakar Mohammed for creating local harrowing and ploughing machines.
The governor said the gesture is an attempt to encourage and boost agricultural production in the state.
Presenting the cheque to them at the events center, Government House in Damaturu, Buni said the support was meant to motivate the young students.
He further hoped that the gesture would help to encourage local invention among the people of the state.
The governor said his administration was committed to creating the right platform to support the state citizens to generate employment, enhance self-reliance, and food sufficiency and contributes to the national agricultural policy for the attainment of food security in Nigeria.
“This administration will, therefore, continue to give the sector the priority attention it deserves.
“We shall also be in tune with the Federal Government’s policy on agriculture as one of the most important sectors of the nation’s economy,” he said.
Responding on their behalf, Maigari thanked the governor for the donation and promised they would use the money to upgrade the machines.
