…as NWC stands on transparent process
Frontline aspirant for the senatorial courtesy in Ekiti South Senatorial District under the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Bamidele Faparusi, has been cleared for primary at the screening conducted by the National body of by the party.
Faparusi, a former member of the House of Representatives successfully scaled through the hurdles of screening exercise conducted by the party’s screening panel ahead of the forthcoming senatorial primary election.
Speaking during the exercise, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, assured all aspirants of the commitment of the National Working Committee (NWC) to conduct a free, fair, transparent, and credible primary election.
According to the National Chairman, despite mounting pressure from certain interests advocating for non-competitive arrangements, the party leadership remains determined to protect internal democracy and preserve the integrity of the APC.
He stated that the party would not succumb to any action capable of weakening or destroying the democratic foundation of the APC, stressing that the era of imposing candidates against the wishes of party members must give way to genuine participation.
Prof. Yilwatda also appreciated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the confidence reposed in the NWC to organize transparent primaries nationwide, assuring party members that the leadership of the party would not disappoint Nigerians and APC faithful.
The APC National Chairman further urged aspirants to educate party members on the significance of the direct primary system as provided for under the Electoral Act, noting that the process effectively returns decision-making power to card-carrying members of the party at the grassroots.
He advised party faithful to disregard rumours suggesting that the Presidency or party leadership had endorsed any particular aspirant, emphasizing that there would be no automatic ticket for any aspirant, including sitting lawmakers or senators.
Reacting after the screening, Hon. Faparusi reaffirmed his confidence in the party’s democratic process and commended the APC leadership for standing firmly in defence of fairness, for transparency, and internal democracy.
Hon. Faparusi, popularly known as Fappy, expressed appreciation to the leadership of the party for what he described as a credible and transparent screening process.
“I am encouraged by the assurances given by our National Chairman and the leadership of our great party. APC remains a progressive party built on fairness, participation, and the voice of the people. I am fully prepared for the direct primary and confident in the support of APC members across Ekiti South,” Faparusi stated.
Supporters of the former House of Representatives member have continued to express optimism over his chances, citing his grassroots connection, loyalty to the party, and visible record of empowerment and constituency development.
