Police Cautions Car Owners, Drivers Against Car Theft in Ekiti

The Ekiti State Police Command has cautioned residents of the state to be extra vigilant and put in place security features that can safeguard their cars.

 

This was contained in a statement on Tuesday in Ado-Ekiti by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Sunday Abutu.

 

He noted that the activities of car thieves in the state have evolved new methods of dispossesing car owners of their cars.

 

The statement reads: “In view of the proactive measures put in place by the Command to check the activities of car thieves in the State, Criminal elements have evolved new methods of dispossessing Car owners of their Cars.

 

“It has come to the notice of the Command that car thieves have adopted the use of Master Keys to unlock, start and remove Cars from Parks and Garage.

 

“Consequently, the Command wishes to advise Members of the public especially car owners and drivers to be extra vigilant and put in place security features that can safeguard their Cars.

 

“Car owners and drivers are implored to take note of the following tips to ensure the safety of their Cars:

i. Install a tracking System

ii. Do not park at get-away position in.

iii. Do not park in poorly lit areas

iv. Install an Audible Alarm System and Anti-theft Device.

v. Do not leave your key in your car

vi. Always be Cautious. Do not leave your Car unattended to for a long period without surveying and analysing the safely of the area.

vii. Know your plate number off hand to enable the Police take immediate action in case of theft.

viii. Do not leave your original document in your Car.

ix. Do not leave your car in an isolated place.

v. Always ensure you close all the windows completely.

 

“While the Command will continue to monitor and thwart the nefarious activities of the hoodlums, members of the public are advised to always be vigilant, security conscious and promptly report any suspicious face or movement around their environs to the nearest Police Station or call 08062335577.”
