Hon.Doc. Kolawole Peregrino has been elected as President of the Brazilian Descendants Association.
This occurred on Wednesday, 27th March 2025 during an historic and memorable transition of leadership when the outgoing President, Senhor Anthony Olayemi Marinho, officially handed over the mantle of leadership.
In his farewell address, Senhor Marinho, who has led the Association with passion and a strong sense of cultural responsibility expressed his profound gratitude to the members for their unwavering support, unity, and trust throughout his tenure.
He highlighted key milestones of his administration, including the revival of cultural heritage events, establishment of scholarship schemes for young descendants, and fostering of bilateral cultural ties between Brazil and Nigeria through consistent community engagement and advocacy.
Senhor Marinho described his successor, Hon. Doc. Kolawole Peregrino, as a capable, visionary, and passionate individual who has demonstrated dedication to the values and mission of the Association and will take the legacy further.
The newly sworn-in President, Hon. Doc. Kolawole Peregrino, in his acceptance speech, expressed appreciation” for the opportunity to serve” and pledged to “build on the strong foundation “laid by his predecessor.
He stated that his leadership would be anchored on inclusion, innovation, and the advancement of cultural and socio-economic empowerment of members.
Hon. Peregrino also emphasized the need for unity among members and promised to open a new chapter of growth through strategic partnerships, youth engagement, digitization of association records, and strengthening of cultural identity among Brazilian descendants in Nigeria and beyond.
The event was marked with rich cultural displays, including Afro-Brazilian drumming, traditional dances, and recitations that paid homage to the rich ancestry of the Brazilian Descendants community.
The Brazilian Descendants Association reiterates its commitment to preserving the legacies of its forebears while working toward a brighter future for all members under the leadership of Hon. Doc. Kolawole Peregrino.
