The National secretariat of National Union of Market Traders Employers of Nigeria(NUMTEN) has appointed the wife of the Ewi of Ado-Ekiti, Yeyesorun Margaret Abosede Adejugbe as it’s Matron.
The Union’s Chairman in Ekiti, Mr Morakinyo Akintayo, on Thursday disclosed this in a statement, made available to Journalists in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti state capital.
According to him, “the national body of the union, considered the oba’s wife, befitting of the office of the matron, following her several years result of contributions to emancipation of commerce and enterprise in the country, especially at the grassroots.”
He disclosed that the news about the appointment had already been communicated to the 72-year old, at a private meeting, held with her on Monday at the Ewi’s palace, which she gladly accepted.
” The union sought for her blessings and support, as a royal mother in Ekiti.
” She is also known to be a strong pillar to all the Iyalojas and Babaloja’s (Women and men market leaders) in the State, and Ado Ekiti in particular, who will no doubt use her office to further support the union in it’s activities, in other to achieve it’s aims and objectives”, he said.
He added that the oba’s wife, In her reaction to the appointment, accepted the offer, which she considered as a great honour.
She quoted her as saying she was happy over the approval, given by the Federal Government for the emergence of the union at a time like, this when all towns and villages are in dire need of vibrant market operations.
“She threw weight behind government’s intentions, saying she supported the need for discipline and proper maintenance of all markets in Nigeria.
“She equally rejoiced with market men and women, for the autonomy granted them by the Federal Government of Nigeria as a union”, he said.
