A temporary confusion was reportedly averted at the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Ekiti State where an attempted invasion by alleged external agitators under the aegis of National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), was fiercely resisted by the university security and allied agencies.
A press release by the Public Relations Officer of the institution, Foluso Ogunmodede stated that:
“The brazen attempt by the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Ekiti Chapter, to violently disrupt the institution’s celebrated academic stability has thrown the campus into confusion, leaving vulnerable fresh students seeking urgent government protection to avoid the already reigning peace on campus being thrown into the wind.
“Today’s confusion followed a clear, premeditated threat issued last week by the NYCN.
“It would be recalled the shocking letter by the NYCN Ekiti Chapter forwarded to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria was widely circulated to the media.
“The group boldly declared their plan to “invade FUOYE and cause wholesale disruption and paralyse academic activities” over what they cited as unsubstantiated allegations against the university’s administration, including abuse of office and calls for the removal of the Vice-Chancellor.
“But the NYCN’s move was immediately and vehemently rejected by the University’s Students’ Union Government (SUG), which had already raised profound concerns over the impending threat.”
The SUG, for the overwhelming majority of students who focused on their studies, insisted that FUOYE was not an arena for political skirmishes.
The SUG President stated emphatically last week that “FUOYE is an academic environment dedicated to learning, research, and development, not a ground for political mobilisation or external agitation. We will not sit back and watch any unauthorised gathering on campus and disruption of the peace and academic activities we currently enjoy.”
“Ignoring the students’ plea and the sanctity of the academic environment, the NYCN Ekiti Chapter proceeded with its destructive plan today, November 3, 2025 as its invasion was visibly led by the chapter’s Chairman, Comrade Segun Bankole, alongside Mr Alade Emmanuel, the Chairman of the Southern Nigeria Youth Congress Ekiti Chapter.
“Sources confirm the group attempted to forcefully invade the main campus, allegedly bringing with them several individuals of questionable characters.
“Their goal was clear: to cause confusion, incite violence, and manufacture a full-blown crisis on the campus.
“Thankfully, the swift and determined action of the university security team, working in collaboration with other security agencies on the ground, successfully repelled the invasion.
“The heroic resistance ensured the physical barricades were held and the academic heart of the institution remained safe from trespass.
After being forcefully resisted at the gates, the agitated mob, led by Mr Bankole, later reassembled strategically at the Falex junction near Oye, positioning themselves directly in front of the university signpost.
“Eyewitnesses confirmed that they proceeded to stage multiple videos, clearly designed to depict a confrontation that never occurred on campus.”
This act confirms the worst fears of the university community: that the entire exercise was a premeditated media stunt designed not for genuine advocacy, but to mislead and misinform the public through sensational and baseless claims.
The betrayal runs even deeper. A highly placed source, speaking to our correspondent on condition of anonymity, revealed the deep disappointment felt by the student leadership.
“Earlier this morning, the SUG President held constructive conversations with both the NYCN National President and the State Chairman, where they personally assured him there would be nothing like a protest in the interest of the students and vowed to join hands to resist anything that would disrupt the fantastic academic calendar we have been enjoying,” the source lamented. “To see them now turn around and lead this invasion confirms this was never about the students; it was about selfish political sabotage.”
The disappointment has quickly given way to serious panic among the student body.
“The most vulnerable population, the hundreds of new students who just resumed for the session, are reported to be in distress, seeking urgent help for their safety.”
In a collective voice rising above the fear, the students of FUOYE are currently making a passionate and desperate appeal to Mr President to immediately direct all security agencies to flood the Oye-Ekiti axis.
They are calling for immediate and stringent protection for the students and staff from the external threat, specifically naming “Mr Bankole and his co-travellers brought” to their sanctuary of learning.”, the statement said.
