From Palace Halls to Market Squares, NGO Mobilises Ekiti Voters for Peaceful Polls

With barely weeks to the June 20, 2026 Ekiti State Governorship Election, the Kids & Teens Resource Centre (K&TRC), in collaboration with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has intensified grassroots voter education across Ekiti West Local Government Area, reaching over 1,600 residents through community sensitisation campaigns.

The 10-day mobilisation exercise covered Aramoko, Erinjinyan, Erio, Ipole, Okeimesi and Ikogosi communities, engaging market women, transport workers, artisans, traditional rulers, religious leaders and security agencies on peaceful participation, PVC collection and the dangers of vote-buying.

One of the campaign’s biggest highlights was a massive outreach at Aramoko market where over 600 residents participated in open-air voter education sessions.

The initiative also secured the backing of traditional institutions, culminating in a stakeholders’ meeting attended by over 80 chiefs and community leaders from 18 communities in Aramoko Kingdom, where participants pledged to mobilise residents for peaceful elections.

The initiative also leverage a volunteer who speaks the Hausa Language to reach the housa-speaking community in the local government.

In addition to community engagements, the campaign extended to radio sensitisation on Fresh FM 106.9 to reach a wider audience across the state.

Organisers described the initiative as:” part of ongoing efforts to strengthen democratic participation and ensure informed, violence-free elections in Ekiti State.”
