….urges him to fulfill his electoral promises, be magnanimous in victory
The Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) Zone B has congratulated the winner of the June 18, governorship election in Ekiti State, Mr. Biodum Abayomi Oyebanji (BAO) on his resounding electoral victory which was announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) early Sunday morning.
BAO emerged victoriously after a keenly contested gubernitorial poll among 16 political parties, he polled a whopping 187, 057 votes to beat his second runner up, the Social Democratic Party’s Chief Segun Oni who polled 82,211 votes.
While congratulating BAO of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for emerging the credible and well deserved successor of the out-going Dr. John Kayode Fayemi, the Vice -President of the NUJ, South West Zone Comrade Ronke Samo, urged him to be magnanimous in victory, saying: ” NUJ South West Zone , heartily congratulate our Governor-elect, Mr. Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji on his resounding victory at the Saturday, June 18 governorship poll in Ekiti State. Ekiti people who trooped out in large numbers on Saturday to vote, have spoken loud and clear that you are their choice, now that you have won sir and have been convinced that Ekiti people want you as their Governor and a man who will decide their fortune and destiny for the next four years, kindly be magnanimous in victory and roll up your sleeves because it is time to work for the progress, huge development and unity of all Ekiti people who have graciously handed you the mandate to lead them.”
Speaking further, Comrade Samo
said: ” Politicking is over now, Ekiti people have given you the mandate to lead them for the next four years. This well deserving victory should be a challenge for you to prove to Ekiti people that they have indeed made the right choice. That they have chosen a man who can lead them to a more prosperous Ekiti where the loftiest of their dreams shall be fully realized.
“While we heartily congratulate you on this historic electoral victory, we enjoin you to remember your promises for Ekiti people which are embedded in your manifestoes. We urge you to realize that Ekiti people have entrusted into your golden hands their destiny for the next four years; the teeming vibrant, intelligent and progressively minded but largely unemployed youths, the teeming hardworking and faithful civil servants and equally teeming aged pensioners and less privileged persons are looking up to you. Let your victory be the testimony of their trust in you to bring about a more prosperous and highly developed Ekiti within the shortest time possible.
