The management of the Ekiti state university,EKSU, Ado-Ekiti said it has uncovered an alleged plan by some people who are facing various indiscipline allegations in the Institution to tarnish the image of the Vice Chancellor, Professor Edward Olanipekun.

A press release on Friday signed by the Head Directorate of Information and corporate affairs of the institution, Bode Olofinmuagun and titled :ATTEMPT TO BLACKMAIL EKSU VC UNCOVERED disclosed that the University authority noticed the activities of some “disgruntled elements” within the university community who are determined to blackmail the VC.
The statement reads:
“These are people facing different categories of allegations of disciplinary infractions in the University. These infractions include academic fraud, plagiarism, sexual harassment, falsification of results, among many others”
The statement added that some of those people have also taken the university and the Vice Chancellor, in his personal capacity, to court on trump – up charges.
“Impeccable sources revealed that this set of people, in their desperate attempt to have a soft landing are devising dubious means to distract the Vice Chancellor in the performance of his official duties.
“Apart from the above, few of them even sent various death threat messages to the Vice Chancellor so that they could have their ways
“Since all efforts made by them to dissuade the University from going ahead with the charges against them had failed, they are now at the verge of resorting to blackmail and malign the personality of the Vice Chancellor through spurious and unfounded allegations with a view to dragging his name in the mud and to attract public sympathy. It was also learnt that they resolved to sponsor media attacks against the Vice Chancellor to achieve their nefarious objective.
“It was further uncovered that they were of the opinion that the last governorship election in Ekiti State would not favour the All Progressives Congress and boasted that the Vice Chancellor would be removed thereafter.
It is necessary to put this in public domain so that the general public should be wary of the antics of these desperados”
The statement stressed that “The Vice Chancellor is determined to remain focused in his efforts to reposition the university and purge it of the culture of impunity, hence will not be deterred”.
