The Wife of the Ekiti State Governor, Dr Olayemi Oyebanji, on Wednesday urged teachers and guardians of orphaned pupils benefiting from her pet project, the Widows, Orphans and Hope Project, to intensify efforts at nurturing them into responsible and successful adults.
Oyebanji made the appeal during the presentation of cash gifts and educational materials to beneficiaries of the Project in Ado-Ekiti
She stressed the importance of closely monitoring the academic performance of the children, noting that such supervision would help guardians and teachers identify challenges early and provide timely guidance and correction.
The Governor’s wife also charged the pupils to remain committed to their studies and uphold values that would make them worthy ambassadors of their families and society.
She advised guardians to work in synergy with teachers, rather than leaving the total responsibility of the children’s academic and moral upbringing to schools.
Oyebanji appealed to the guardians to support the re-election bid of Gov. Biodun Oyebanji in the June 20 governorship election, saying continuity in leadership would ensure the sustenance of the project and other people-oriented initiatives of the administration.
According to her, the administration’s commitment to social welfare and human capital development has been demonstrated through interventions targeted at vulnerable groups across the state.
Earlier, the project coordinator, Dr Kemi Dairo, commended the First Lady for her dedication to improving the welfare of widows, orphans and other vulnerable residents in the state.
Also speaking, the Senior Special Assistant on Advocacy, Dr Eunice Fasanmi; the Education Executive Secretary, Mr Toyin Omotoso; and the Senior Special Assistant on Political Matters, Mrs Toyin Adepoju, urged guardians to remain actively involved in shaping the children into responsible citizens.
Some of the beneficiaries, including Opeyemi Awopetu, and a guardian, Mrs Kehinde Olawale, expressed appreciation to the First Lady for the support and pledged to remain focused on educational and personal development.
