A University lecturer at the Ekiti state University, EKSU, Ado-Ekiti , Professor Ibiyinka Olusola Adesanya has lamented the rate at which patriarchal ideologies have perpetuated harmful attitudes toward reinforcing gender inequality and social stigma. She regretted how the ideologies objectify and control women’s bodies with harmful stereotypes thereby limiting their agency.
Adesanya stated this while delivering the 104th inaugural lecture of the university with the title:”Whom Did Women Offend : God, Nature, Man or Society? A Socio- Religious Enquiry.
The Professor of Sociology of Religion therefore called for the need to appreciate Women and Women’s Right Activists in particular
“Women’s rights are denied or restricted within religious contexts and so the consequences of denying women’s rights are far reaching and devastating .It is essential to address these inequalities and ensure that women’s rights are respected, protected and fulfilled.
“ If there is any relief enjoyed by women in our world today , it should be attributed to women activists. What would a world without them have looked?
“ Educating men and women about the importance of equality and the consequences of disparity and violence against women is crucial. Therefore it is necessary to provide women with leadership opportunities and training to challenge patriarchal attitudes and practices.
“ Women play a vital role in national development and their contributions are essential for a country’s economic , social and political growth”, the Don said.
The Vice Chancellor of the institution Professor Joseph Babatola Ayodele stated that the lecture was well captured and reaffirmed that any lineage of God is not inferior to other person.
“ Women should not be subjected to marginalization . Women have not offended anyone.
