Cholera:  NAWOJ embarks on Sensitization in Lagos Metropolis

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Lagos State chapter has embarked on aggressive sensitization to prevent further outbreak of cholera  among the people.

The Lagos Women Journalists.visited the Ogba Multipurpose Shopping Complex , Alhaja Habibatu Mogaji Day and Sunday Market, Ogba in the State, on July 10, 2024.

The visit  according to a press statement by the Assistant secretary of the Association,Omolola Olamijulo was aimed to sensitize the public on the recent cholera outbreak and preventive measures.

“Led by Chairperson Dr. Adeola Ekine, accompanied by some executives and members, NAWOJ visited the offices of Ganiyatu Kasumu, Iyaloja of Ogba Multipurpose Shopping Complex, and Chief Folashade Salako, Iyaloja of Alhaja Habibatu Mogaji Day and Sunday Market. The market women and men warmly received them.

“Dr. Ekine emphasized the importance of proper hygiene, including handwashing after using the restroom, ensuring food safety, and maintaining a clean environment. She urged food vendors, meat sellers, and others to cover their wares with nets to prevent flies from contaminating them.

“The Iyaloja of both markets expressed gratitude to NAWOJ for their outreach and pledged to take necessary precautions to protect themselves and their environment. They also committed to advocating for a clean and cholera-free environment, joining forces with the association and government.

“Chief Folashade Salako announced that the market has scheduled a fumigation day, and the visit from NAWOJ is a welcome support. The association’s members and executives distributed pamphlets and posters with illustrations on cholera prevention and control.

“NAWOJ remains committed to its advocacy for a clean and cholera-free environment, and this visit marks another step in its efforts to promote public health and well-being”. the statement said.
