The Industrial action embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has been extended to eight weeks.
ASUU had commenced a one month warning strike on Monday February 14. The warning Strike which is supposed to expire today March 14 has still been extended.
This was made known by the National Executive Council (NEC) of the Union via its official Twitter handle @ASUUNGN . The Union in it’s tweet stated:
“BREAKING NEWS: ASUU extends the strike action by 8 weeks. Stay tuned for more details. #ASUU #ASUUstrike,”
The strike according to the union was to press home their demands from the federal government.
Among the reasons stated by the University lecturers were the non-implementation of the 2009 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) reached with it by the Federal Government
The government in an attempt to reach a solution had last week
set up a fresh panel to look into the MoU .
