The chairman, Fresh FM Nigeria, Dr. Yinka Ayefele (MON),has called on the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) to thoroughly investigate upcoming radio stations before granting them licence.
Ayefele gave the task at a press conference held at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Centre, Iyaganku, Ibadan, to kick start the 10th anniversary celebration of Fresh FM Ibadan.
The popular broadcaster and musician stated that this became necessary to sustain the level of practice and professionalism in the radio stations.
Dr Ayefele, the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) investigated him for seven years before granting the licence to operate his radio station, Fresh FM in Ibadan.
“The NBC investigated me for seven years.The DSS even went to my parents, my schools, and my church to ask questions about me,” he said.
Dr Ayefele added, “If the NBC investigates radio licence applicants today the way they did to me, many people wouldn’t have radio stations,” he said.
Ayefele lauded former President Good luck Ebele Jonathan and his wife, Dame Patience Jonathan, for their roles in the eventual approval of his radio station licence in April 2015.
