Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has rolled out a new set of palliative measures for public servants, including a weekly day off and a ₦10,000 monthly transport allowance, as part of efforts to ease the impact of rising fuel costs and the increasing cost of living.
The intervention, which takes effect from April 2026 and will last for three months, is designed to support workers facing higher transportation expenses following recent fuel price hikes.
According to a statement by the State Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya, eligible workers will be entitled to one day off duty each week, alongside the monthly transport allowance throughout the duration of the programme.
Onasanya noted that the initiative aims to reduce the stress associated with daily commuting while also boosting morale and productivity across the state’s workforce.
He clarified, however, that some categories of workers will not participate in the weekly day-off arrangement due to the essential nature of their duties.
These include health workers, judicial staff, teaching and non-teaching personnel at all educational levels, security operatives, Accounting Officers, Heads of Departments, and other critical service providers who must remain on duty.
Despite this exemption, all affected workers will still receive the ₦10,000 transport allowance.
The Head of Service further stated that Accounting Officers across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) will coordinate the scheduling of the weekly day off for eligible staff to ensure that public service operations are not disrupted.
Describing the measures as a responsive and worker-friendly initiative, Onasanya praised Governor Abiodun for demonstrating concern for
