2027: Alignment Is Not Performance, Ife Deserves More, Says ADC Candidate’s Campaign Organisation

The ESKAY Campaign Organization, the political structure of the House of Representatives candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, in Ife Federal Constituency, Hon. Sikiru Adetona Ayedun, has said Ife Federal Constituency deserves effective representation beyond mere alignment with the ruling party.

In a rejoinder issued on Tuesday and credited to the organisation, the campaign group faulted arguments that Ife must return the incumbent lawmaker, Hon. Taofeek Abimbola Ajilesoro, simply because he is now in the ruling party.

According to the organisation, such argument sounds attractive but fails to address the most important question of what the people have gained from the representation.

“The argument that Ife Federal Constituency must return Hon. Taofeek Abimbola Ajilesoro simply because he is now in the ruling party sounds attractive, but it leaves out the most important question: what has the people gained, and what measurable results can be attributed to his representation?” the group stated.

The ESKAY Campaign Organization stressed that being in the ruling party does not automatically translate to development, adding that political proximity should not be mistaken for performance.

“Being in the ruling party may provide access to government, but access is not achievement, and party alignment is not a development plan. If APC alignment automatically guarantees development, then every constituency represented by the ruling party should already be enjoying unprecedented transformation,” it said.

The group said what Ife needs ahead of the 2027 general election is not political alignment but purposeful leadership anchored on competence and vision.

“Ife deserves more than political proximity. We deserve effective representation, measurable development, accountability and a clear vision for the future,” the statement noted.

It urged constituents to focus on capacity and track record rather than party affiliation when making their choice in 2027.

“Therefore, the 2027 choice should not be about who has moved closer to the seat of power. It should be about who has the competence, courage, vision and capacity to use political power for the benefit of Ife Federal Constituency,” the organisation said.

The campaign body concluded with a call for issue-based contest, saying, “Let the records speak. Let the plans compete. Let the people decide. Ife must move forward, but not merely with alignment. It must move forward with purposeful representation.”
