The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), has faulted reports that it rejected N30 million gift from Kebbi state government in aid of its just concluded crusade in Birnin Kebbi.
The special adviser to the governor on Christian Affairs, Rev. Samuel Audu Dabai, stated at a news conference that the association never rejected the money given to the body by Governor Nasir Idris.
“The officiating Senior Pastor, Dr. Paul Enenche of the Dunamis International Gospel Centre, did not wave the money away.
“On stage, he remarked that, he’ll not need the money personally, but advised CAN to reinvest the funds for the well-being of humanity to improve the care of orphanage or utilise it properly for the betterment of the Christian community.
“Dunamis Ministry does not accept monetary gift for crusade from anywhere, Dr. Enenche solely sponsors his programmes.
“In my capacity as the special adviser to the governor on Christian Affairs, I signed and collected the money on behalf of the Christian community.
“The money is well received, we will put it on execution of Christian projects in the state,” Rev. Dabai said.
He described Governor Idris as a highly compassionate and magnanimous personality and a free giver who always wants to make his people happy.
“Comrade Idris has partnered with CAN in several areas for the benefit of Christians.
“He approved the use of the stadium for the crusade and the use of the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Lodge for the Leaders/Ministers’ conference.
“Before now, he had appointed lots of Christians into the government as senior special assistants.
“The governor offset CAN’s debt of N18 million arising from past pilgrimage and he also allocated sizeable land for Christian cemetery. We remain thankful to him,” he said.
Kebbi CAN Vice-chairman, Rev. Femi Orofin, spoke in like manner, debunking reports that the association turned down the money given to it by Governor Nasir for the programme.
