Following a viral video on child abuse, the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has summoned singer Speed Darlington who confessed to having sexual relations with a 15-year-old girl.
The video surfaced online on Tuesday and became viral. Reactions from the public prompted intervention from the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA).
In a post on X, formerly Twitter, NAPTIP confirmed the invitation, stating that Darlington is to appear at its Abuja headquarters at 9am on Friday, 30 May, for questioning. The agency noted that further circulating videos contain similarly disturbing content and potential self-incriminating admissions, which, if substantiated, may contravene the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act, 2015 and the Cybercrime Act, 2015.
The DSVA clarified that the exact location of the alleged incident remains unknown, but the matter has been escalated to federal authorities as it may fall outside the agency’s jurisdiction in Lagos State.
Despite initially admitting to the offence, Darlington later backtracked, claiming his statements were fictional and intended for entertainment purposes. He insisted that his content was satirical and declined to provide further clarification.
