The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp NSCDC, Ekiti state command has expressed readiness to collaborate the Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ in tackling Quackery and eradicate the spread of fake news in the society.
The Ekiti NUJ under the leadership of Comrade Rotimi Ojomoyela had earlier set up a five- man task force committe to rid the state of unprofessionalism as being manifested by some fake Journalists in the state especially at the era of preparation for new Political dispensation.
The task force on Tuesday paid a courtesy visit to the NSCDC at Ikere road in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.
The Chairman of the Committee,Raphael Ogbonnaiye explained that the visit was meant to seek collaboration with security personnels to help curb the widespread of fake journalism and quackery in the profession in the state.
He stated that “quack journalists especially at any Political period trooped into the state tagging themselves as “Abuja Journalist” taking over the affairs of journalists during election without the input of Nigeria Union of journalist (NUJ).
“We are seeking this collaboration to help checkmate these people and report them to security personnels, for possible proper measures to be taken against them” he said.
Responding,the state commandant of the NSCDC, John Fayemi said, “we will work together as stakeholders to checkmate anything that can affect a peaceful and credible election in the state.”
He tasked the NUJ to ensure Proper identification of those individuals with assurance that security agents would enable such set of people face wrath of the law if apprehended.
