The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Lagos State Chapter, has pledged support to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in reducing road accidents, promoting compliance with traffic regulations, and enhancing road safety awareness in Lagos State.
The commitment was made during a courtesy visit to the FRSC Lagos State office, Ojodu, led by NAWOJ Lagos Chairperson, Dr. Adeola Ekine.
During the visit, NAWOJ expressed its admiration for the dedication of the FRSC in ensuring safer roads in Lagos.
The Chairperson noted the alignment between NAWOJ’s advocacy for responsible journalism, gender equality, and societal development, and the FRSC’s mission to save lives and ensure road safety.
“The dedication of the command, under the leadership of Corps Commander Patrick D. Davou, in ensuring safety on Lagos roads is commendable. The tireless efforts of the men and women in uniform, who put their lives on the line daily to protect commuters and pedestrians alike, deserve recognition,” said Dr. Ekine.
The visit was also an opportunity for NAWOJ to celebrate the retirement of Corps Commander Patrick D. Davou. Dr. Ekine congratulated him for his remarkable contributions to road safety in Lagos State and expressed confidence that his leadership and lessons would continue to inspire the next generation of FRSC officers.
NAWOJ pledged to collaborate with the FRSC on initiatives such as child safety in vehicles, proper seat belt use, and road safety education for school children. Dr. Ekine expressed optimism that this visit marked the beginning of a lasting relationship between both organizations to enhance media coverage of road safety issues, promote responsible driving, and work towards reducing accidents and fatalities in Lagos.
In response, Corps Commander Patrick D. Davou commended NAWOJ for their support, stating, “This is the first time journalists have come together to form support and advocate for the Road Safety Corps. We look forward to a fruitful collaboration with NAWOJ.”
As a gesture of partnership, NAWOJ Chairperson Dr. Adeola Ekine decorated the Corps Commander as a NAWOJ, Lagos Ambassador, while the Sector Commander presented road usage books and guidelines to the NAWOJ, Lagos members.
The visit concluded with a mutual commitment to continue working towards a safer, healthier, and more informed Lagos.
