Women/ Girl Child Dev.: Ekiti NAWOJ partners Head of Service, Folakemi Olomojobi

…as HOS assures Workers’ friendly environment in Civil Service

The leadership of Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Ekiti state chapter has sought meaningful partnership with the newly appointed Head of Service ,HoS in the state, Dr Folakemi Olomojobi on development of Women and girl child .

Speaking in Ado-Ekiti, the chairperson, Mrs Adewumi Ademiju described the HOS as a gift to Ekiti State civil service, adding that her position would serve as a pedestal for girls and women across the country to positively break beyond boundaries.

While assuring the number one civil servant in the state that women journalists would
use their various platforms to promote her, she enjoined the HoS to join the association in its campaign against violence on female gender in Ekiti.

The Chairperson said, “We congratulate you on this new feat as the HoS. You are a great gift to Ekiti as described by Aare Afe Babalola.

“NAWOJ is the women wing of the Nigeria Union of Journalists,NUJ which comprises of all media chapels across the state.

“We also engage in advocacy that promotes the interest of Women and girl child. We have also joined in the campaign of HPV vaccination by sensitizing people especially girls and women in the state.

“The purpose of our visit is to have a meaningful collaboration with your office for the development of Women and girl child .

“We are giving you the assurance that we will project your activity to the world with our platforms to serve as a signal to girls that there are opportunities for them to get better in their endeavors”.

In her response, Dr Olomojobi hailed the association for being the first group to visit her office since her emergence as the Head of Service in Ekiti, while pleading not to relent in the fight for gender equality.

She also declared the commitment of her office towards the welfare of civil servants in the state, saying none of them will be harassed or oppressed under her leadership.

“While I am not a feminist, I promote gender equality. We have the capacity to be excellent in whatever we are doing.

“We are better in modeling the society, a woman must be properly educated. I am not a god father to anyone.

“I will not allow anyone to oppress anybody under my leadership. No room for gender based violence and harassment.

“We must never look down on ourselves, it’s a sin not to fulfill our potentials and destiny”

She also used the opportunity to enjoin women to enrol their girls for Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccines, stressing that no woman should die of cervical cancer.

“NAWOJ is classic people. There is no reason any women should die of cervical cancer. So, I’m appealing to our women to enroll their girls for the vaccination”, the Hos said.
