The Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) and Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) have registered separate Electricity Distribution Companies (DisCOs) with the Corporate Affairs Commission that are licensed to distribute electricity in Ekiti State in compliance with the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission’s orders.
These moves come on the heels of the transfer of regulatory oversight of the electricity market in the state from the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission to the Ekiti State Electricity Regulatory Bureau.
The newly registered distribution companies are the Ekiti Electricity Distribution Company Limited with Reg. No RC 7535457 registered by IBEDC on 30th May, 2024, and BEDC Electricity Ekiti Limited with Reg. No RC 7629775, with 28th June, 2024 as effective date of registration by BEDC.
The State Commissioner for Infrastructure and Public Utilities, Prof. Bolaji Aluko, who made this known in a statement made available to newsmen in Ado Ekiti, explained that the Ekiti Electricity Regulatory Bureau would license the new companies, upon application for operation within the State, with close monitoring and evaluation for improved effective and efficient service delivery.
Reiterating the commitment of Governor Biodun Oyebanji administration to achieving regular supply and distribution of electricity in the State, the Commissioner assured that Government would leave no stone unturned towards ensuring a seamless supply of electricity to residents in the State.
He explained that they will now be operating in the State one Genco and three Discos, he expressed the confidence that a competitive and enabling environment will encourage investors in the power sector to grace the State with alternate sources of power, especially renewable energy
The development will enable the newly registered establishments to provide distinct electricity distribution services exclusively to Ekiti State.
