Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu has launched an empowerment scheme for more than 800 women during a one-day working visit to Kogi State where she commissioned two state projects
The visit began with the commissioning of the newly completed Kogi State Treasury House and a Primary Healthcare Centre at Lokongoma Phase I.
She then proceeded to Government House, Lokoja, where she flagged off the distribution of empowerment materials and start-up grants to beneficiaries under the Renewed Hope Initiative.
Speaking at the event, Senator Tinubu said the programme is aimed at improving livelihoods, promoting self-reliance and strengthening household incomes.
She charged beneficiaries to put the support to productive use to grow their businesses and improve family welfare.
“The Renewed Hope Initiative remains committed to complementing government efforts in reducing poverty and expanding economic opportunities for women and vulnerable groups across the country,” she said.
The First Lady commended Hajia Sefinat Ododo, wife of the Kogi State Governor and State Coordinator of the Initiative, for her commitment to programmes that target women, families and vulnerable persons.
Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo received Senator Tinubu on arrival, alongside governors from the North Central zone, ministers, senior government officials, traditional rulers, politicians and other dignitaries who graced the occasion.
