President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to immediately approach the court to vacate the order freezing the bank accounts of the Osun State Government, stressing that the move should be reversed in the interest of fairness and the credibility of the electoral process.
The President said he had not yet received a full briefing on the circumstances that prompted the EFCC to seek the court order but expressed concern that the timing, coming just days before the Osun State governorship election, was inappropriate.
Tinubu warned that no action should be taken that could create the perception that federal institutions are not neutral during a democratic process.
According to the statement, the President directed the anti-corruption agency to withdraw the legal action without delay.
“Accordingly, I have directed the EFCC to immediately proceed to the court to vacate the order and discontinue whatever action it has instituted against the Osun State Government in this regard,” the statement said.
The directive comes as political parties intensify their campaigns and conclude preparations for the governorship election in Osun State, which is scheduled to take place in the coming days.
