Police in Akwa Ibom have arrested a suspected armed robber, identified as Inimfon, and recovered two locally made pistols and two machetes from his residence in Ibiono Ibom local government area of the state.
The suspect was arrested following a distress call in the early hours of September 14, 2026, after he allegedly attacked a policeman and attempted to dispossess him of his bicycle at Ikot Ekweng village.
The command, in a statement, said its operatives on vehicular patrol were directed by the Control Room at about 5 am to proceed to the community following a report of a violent attack.
On arrival, the operatives reportedly met Inspector Henry, who told them that he had been attacked by the suspect, while attempting to prevent him from taking his bicycle.
The police said Inimfon allegedly wielded a machete during the encounter and inflicted an injury on the inspector’s right hand before fleeing the scene.
The operatives subsequently launched a manhunt for the suspect and traced him to his residence, where he was arrested.
A search of the premises allegedly led to the recovery of two locally made pistols and two machetes suspected to be in his possession.
The command said detectives had commenced investigation to determine the source of the firearms and establish whether the weapons had been used in other criminal activities.
It added that investigators were also probing possible links between the suspect and other criminal elements operating within and outside Ibiono Ibom, as the suspect remains in police custody while the recovered weapons have been secured as exhibits.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, commended the operatives for their prompt response and professionalism.
