Strong Leadership ‘ll Bounce Back in NURTW, Says Ex- President,Najeem Yasin

..Tasks NLC on Proper Mediation as Parent Body

Former President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers,NURTW Comrade Najeem , Usman Yasin has declared that the union would get over the current leadership crisis affecting the body.

The immediate past deputy president of the Nigeria Labour Congress stated that the NURTW has an indivisible font and will always resolve what ever crisis and remain strong.

Yasin who is the current regional chairman of International Transport Federation of Africa however cautioned the Nigeria Labour Congress ,NLC from being one sided while urging the union to allow the NURTW operate in the armbit of the constitution.

The transport stakeholders assured that critical efforts are ongoing to arrest the situation and put things accordingly for the smooth running of affairs of the transport union as it has always been .

Yasin made the submission in view of the current crisis going on in the NURTW where the NLC was alleged to be calling for the reinstatement of the former president of the union.

The former president of the NURTW spoke in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti state capital while addressing Journalists during tne convocation ceremony of the Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti, ABUAD .

He said:

“What is happening in the NURTW is very unfortunate , its just a leadership crisis which we have almost got out of , the immediate past president of the union couldn’t build to conduct a credible delegate conference election and that is what results, his tenure expired on 28th, August ,just about two, three months ago which results to putting in caretaker committee to run the affairs of the union,we zoned the offices to the 6 geopolitical zones, the presidency of the union is being zoned to the South West as I’m talking to you we have conducted zonal delegate conference in 5 geo political zones which the leaders have emerged, but because most of the states in the south west are being gone to the state part management committee couldn’t make the south west to conduct their own delegate conference, which we have only like 3 states now, Lagos, Ekiti and Ogun states

“we are looking to have one more state so that it can be two third and be able to conduct the election in the south west and join the leadership. On the 25th,which is next Wednesday , there is going to be an inauguration in the south west, after the inauguration, the Ministry of Labour will intervene and organize a very credible zonal conference in the South west , former president will come, he must come to his zone, register and get mandate”

On palliatives being distributed nationwide to cushion economic hardship , Yasin urged the Federal government to “ make the palliatives available to the masses, NURTW members and make it go around everywhere for people to benefit”

About the role / call of the NLC in the crisis, the NURTW former President said:

“The NLC is misinformed ,as a parent body. The road transport workers has its own constitution and which the NLC as , a father , an umbrella to all industrial unions in the country, if there is any problem in any union, the right thing is to bring the two parties together , they didn’t get the both sides, they just went to one side ,the NLC could mediate and do the right thing , the problem would not escalate. what they are calling for is not necessary .
“ I am here in ABUAD to attend the graduation of my son and this is the first time I will come to the university , what I see here is fantastic ,we pray to God to give the founder more strength to continue the good work he is doing for the country”., he stated.
