SPORTS WRITERS CELEBRATE RETIRING EKITI HEAD OF SERVICE, BABAFEMI

It was a fun filled day at the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium in Ado Ekiti on Monday when Male Accounting Officers from various government ministries and agencies who locked horns with their female counterparts that teamed up with Women in Management to form a team.

 

The Retiring Head of Service, Mrs Peju Babafemi took the official kickoff to the admiration of all the personalities in attendance.

The match was characterized by laughter and funny moments as players of both teams sweated while the match lasted.

By 2 goals to nil, Female Accounting Officers beat their male counterparts, thanks to the Commissioner for Finance, Akin Oyebode being of the men who beefed up the Female Accounting Officers team.

Also in goal for the Female Accounting Officers was the former General Manager of Ekiti State Sports Council, Chief Deji Samo who stopped the Male Accounting Officers from finding the back of the net.

Shortly, after the match , chairman of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN, Ekiti State chapter, Qozeem Oladapo said the novelty match was organized in acknowledgement of the immeasurable strides of Mrs Babafemi who had earlier served as a Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development.

Oladapo also used the occasion to inform the Head of Service and all accounting officers of proposed EKITI HOS Games.

He expressed the hope that the new Head of Service, Mr Bamidele Agbede would do more to speed up sports develoment by encouraging civil servants to take active part in sports

In her remarks, the retiring Head of Service, Mrs Peju Babafemi thanked the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN, Ekiti State chapter for it’s creative gesture and support at all times.

She urged all the accounting officers to key into the Sports initiative.

Medals were presented to dignitaries including the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Mr Micheal Awopetu and the chairman Ekiti State Sports Council, Mrs Olusola Osetoba

Players of both teams also went home with customized medals while the victorious team was presented a brand new trophy courtesy SWAN, Ekiti State.

There was also photo session as members of SWAN took photographs with the top civil servants who had earlier checked their blood pressure at the medical corner provided by the Ministry of Health.
