A call has gone out to civil servants in Ekiti State to work hard and save for rainy days, in order to have something to fall back on during difficult or unexpected times.
The Head of Local Government Administration of Ido/Osi Local Government area of Ekiti State, Mr. Gbenga Sanya, made the disclosure during the monthly prayer meeting and thanksgiving service organized by public servants in the Local Government headquarters in Ido-Ekiti.
Sanya noted that saving for rainy days is about being proactive, responsible, and prepared for life’s uncertainties, such as financial struggles, emergencies, or unexpected expenses, adding that it’s a way of building a safety net to help workers weather life’s challenges.
On his part, the Chairman of the council, Hon. Bamidele Omoleye, urged the staff of the council to avoid absenteeism, truancy, and lateness to work, which he said are against civil service regulations.
The Chairman further advised the workers to make their work a top priority at all times.
“We thank God for the month of May 2025. We assemble today to give glory to God and to celebrate God in our lives and in the lives of all workers in Ekiti State. My message to my workers is that they should be law-abiding citizens, and their work must be a priority to them. It’s only those who work for what they earn that can use the money successfully. So, I’m appealing to my workers to always be on duty and perform their duties as expected”.
He expressed his delight at the ceremony organized to send off the two retiring senior staff of the council, namely the former Finance Directors, Olugbenga Olaiya and Mr. Ojo Jayeoba, appreciating them for their selfless service during their tenure with the council.
“I want to also appreciate God in the lives of these two former directors of finance, whom we are celebrating alongside our monthly prayer. You can see how well and healthy they look, even after retiring two to three months ago. If you meet them on the road, you might think they’re job seekers; you wouldn’t know they’ve served the state for 35 years. So, my message to them is that they should keep hope alive, considering their age is still on their side”.
Speaking on behalf of the retiring officers, Mr. Ojo Jayeoba appreciated the State Governor, the Chairman, the Head of the Local Government Administration, and the entire workforce for organizing a befitting send-off ceremony for them.
“On behalf of myself and my colleague who are being honored today, I really appreciate the efforts of the Chairman for deeming it fit to honor us with this befitting send-off. I also appreciate the Head of Local Government Administration, Mr. Gbenga Sanya, and the entire workers for honoring me through this event. Additionally, I appreciate the Chairman of the Local Government Service Commission, the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Toba Ojo, and the Governor of Ekiti State for what he’s doing for workers and retirees in Ekiti State”.
The occasion was attended by civil servants, political office holders, families, relations of retiring workers, as well as people from various walks of life.
