A Non-Governmental Organization in Sokoto under the aegis of Sokoto Heritage Reloaded Initiative (SHRI) has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to immortalize the first Nigerian Executive President Alhaji Shehu Usman Aliyu’ Shagari over his services to the nation.
Addressing a press conference in Sokoto, leader of the NGO, Professor Abdulkadir Usman Junaidu said the former president deserved such honour in view of his enomorse contributions to national development especially in the education and good leadership he was able to give to Nigeria during his time.
The Usman Danfodio University don also described the former president as a symbol of humility, integrity and statesmanship.
He advised the federal government to name National Open University of
Nigeria (NOUN) after the former president taking into cognascant that the NOUN was first conceaved during his tenure as president of Nigeria.
“Mr President what better way to immortalize Shehu Shagari than to rename NOUN as the Shehu Shagari Open University of Nigeria a tribute not just to his legacy but to his enduring vision for an educated and enlightened Nigeria.
“By doing this, you would not only honour a great son of Nigeria but also write your name in Gold as the leader who kept promises made in good faith — even across administrations.
“It would signal that Nigeria is a country that remembers , rewards legacy and respects the contributions of its heroes past” the Professor explained
He commended president Tinubu for his unwavering support to late President Muhammad Buhari while seeking the coveted office and while running the government.
He also said that history would continue to remember president Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a man of loyalty, principled, persistent and committed leader.
