Pre- Season Friendly: Ekiti United Opens 2022 with Victory

 

Ekiti United on Tuesday defeated Able God FC of Ondo town by a lone goal in a pre-season friendly match at the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium, Ado Ekiti.

The game which was one of the friendlies organized with the aim of preparing the state owned team ahead of the new season was filled with drama.

Tosin Popoola who monitored the encounter reports that due to the late arrival of the visiting team, the match which was earlier slated for 10 in the morning started at about an hour behind schedule.

Able God Fc began the game on a good note as they managed to put the home side on the back foot for the first10 minutes.

Ekiti United under the tutelage of head Coach, Kayode Olujohungbe ended up operating from the wings to balance the game between the two sides.

None of the team recorded a shot on target until the 30th minute of the first half which ended 0-0.

In the second half, fresh legs were introduced by both teams to add flair to the contest as the players weathered the hot weather.

Ekiti United, however found the back of the net in the 51st minute when George Adedara met a corner kick with a header to put the home team ahead.

Ondo based Able God FC commanded play while they hungrily searched for parity as they moved all out in search of an equalizer but the home team defence proved too solid to be infiltrated.

Both sides however had some deft touches towards the end as the JKF boys edged past the visitors 1-0 at regulation time.

Meanwhile, Ekiti United Feeders team will tomorrow (Wednesday) play against 11 Lions FC at the Christ School Football pitch, Ado-Ekiti by 3 in the afternoon.

The coach Mayowa Afolabi tutored side hopes to use the friendly to pick the nucleus of players that will eventually make the list of the team.

According to the management of Ekiti United FC, the Feeders team will be dominated by young indeginous players who may step up to become players of the senior team in future.
