Pioneer Ekiti NAWOJ Chairperson,Late Iyabo Agbeyo’s Legacy Resonates

…as Outstanding Journalists Bag award at NUJ Press Week

 

The pioneer Chairperson of the Nigeria  Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) in Ekiti State, Iyabo Agbeyo has been described as a role model worthy of emulation.

This assertion came to the fore at the Dinner and Awards Night of the 2025 Press Week of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ekiti State Council, held in Ado-Ekiti.

Recipients across various categories received prizes sponsored by the Union, corporate bodies, and notable individuals.

The NAWOJ secretary,Funmi Falae of Progress FM, Ado-Ekiti,emerged Women and Children Reporter of the Year. She lauded the towering profile of the late Mrs. Iyabo Agbeyo, in whose honour the award was instituted, describing the late veteran as a diligent and excellent professional whose contributions remain applaudable.

Presenting the award on behalf of the family, the Special Adviser on Media to the Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Babajide Agbeyo, noted that “the family remains committed to sustaining the annual gesture in recognition of exceptional female journalists.”

He explained that “the memorial prize is aimed at motivating younger professionals to uphold quality media practice, just as the late Mrs. Agbeyo did.”

The late Mrs. Iyabo Agbeyo was the wife of the late Chief Bankole Agbeyo, a veteran broadcaster and former Director at the Broadcasting Service of Ekiti State (BSES).
