The Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), South West, has congratulated the first lady of Ekiti State, Erelu Bisi Fayemi on the occasion of her 59th birthday anniversary today, June 11, 2022.

While celebrating Mrs. Fayemi for being a dogged fighter for the rights and emancipation of the African, and more significantly Nigerian women, the NUJ Zone B, describes her as a woman of great virtues, honour and courage who has continued to be the mouthpiece as well as great benefactor of the womenfolk.

In a congratulatory statement from the office of the Vice-President of the NUJ, Zone B, Mrs. Ronke Samo, the NUJ zone B salutes the courage and humanitarian gesture which have been, for many years, displayed by Erelu Fayemi in the cause of fighting relentlessly for the rights of women, the girl child and the children.

Samo’s statement reads in part: “Erelu Bisi Fayemi is a rare gift to humanity, more significantly, African and specifically, Nigeria. She is an Amazon whose courage in protecting the womenfolk from harmful cultural practices has pushed her into the forefront of feminist struggle on our continent.

“Erelu Fayemi has many golden feathers to her feminist cap, having led the struggle for the emancipation of the women in several capacities, as founder/leader of the African Women Leadership Forum, where she fought, protected many African women besides serving as mentor and great inspiration to other great African women; as writer, entrepreneur and leader, where she inspired, motivated and ignited the feminist passion, leadership acumen and sound moral values into millions of women, girls, youths and children, and above all as a First Lady which office she deployed as a great weapon to combat virtually all harmful cultural practices against the children, youths and women, especially the less privileged women.

“Erelu Fayemi is praiseworthy for realizing legacies of victory for the femalefolk as she has used the ceremonial office of the First lady to influence governance in Ekiti and Nigeria at large. The various gender protecting Laws now domiciled in the state to protect and empower women and children are telling testimonies to the great woman’s courageous and selfless, feminist efforts.

“Little wonder therefore, that her inspirational and motivational Spirit has birthed many other young Amazon’s in our young women and girls and in fact the young men who now protect the women.

“On this beautiful day of your birthday anniversary, we salute your courage, selflessness and most of all humanity which has been the bedrock of all the sacrifices you have been making. The NUJ, South West Zone B eulogizes and celebrates you our dear fighter, mother, mentor and great inspiration for purposeful and impactful leadership.

“We pray that the Almighty God continue to guide, protect and provide for you all moral, spiritual and developmental support to realize every positive dreams of your heart as you celebrate your 59th birthday anniversary today.”
