The Nigerian Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) Ekiti state Chapter on Tuesday partnered with the State Ministry of Women Affairs to commemorate International Women’s Day.
This year’s celebration is themed “For All Women and Girls: Rights, Equality, Empowerment.”
Speaking at the occasion Dr. Olayemi Oyebanji, wife of the Ekiti State Governor, stated that empowering women is crucial for driving rapid development and creating a more equitable society. “Women’s rights are human rights, and equality is not a privilege but a fundamental necessity,” she emphasized.
“In Ekiti State, initiatives like the Widows, Aged, and Orphans Hope Support Foundation (WAOH) and the Adire Ekiti Hub have been established to empower women and girls in entrepreneurship and leadership. These efforts reinforce the importance of women’s empowerment in driving meaningful change”
The partnership between NAWOJ and the Ministry of Women Affairs aims to promote women’s empowerment, equality, and access to opportunities.
The celebration according to the NAWOJ Chairperson, Adewumi Ademiju “acknowledges the progress made in women’s empowerment “while emphasizing the need “for collective action to address the remaining challenges.”
