….mourns Iconic Singer, Onyeka Onwenu
The Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ, Ekiti state council held the monthly congress on Wednesday, July 31st , with the attendance of the Commissioner for Youths Development, Mr Adesola Gold, and the Director General of the Bureau of Civic Orientation and Citizenship, Mrs Olawumi Famuyiwa.
The congress was presided over by the Chairman of the State Council of the Union, Comrade Kayode Babatuyi,
The NUJ at the end of the meeting, in a communique signed by the secretary O’Seun Ogunsakin resolved as follows:
” That the Union charged Nigerians especially the teeming youths to embrace modernized farming so as to address the current hunger occasioned by food shortage in the society.
” The Congress advised government to ensure that agricultural inputs get to real practicing farmers and not non-farmers, while other programmes and incentives get to the real target population.
” The Congress urged security agents to be professional and civil in the discharge of their duties, while protesters should ensure they are law abiding.
” That journalists in the state would provide more publicity for the Ministry of Youths Development following the partnership sought by the Commissioner in charge of the Ministry, Mr Adesola Gold Adedayo who attended this month’s congress.
“That the National Assembly members representing Ekiti state should, without delay, give account of their stewardship within the last one year, engaging the media as the voice of the masses in the process, and also make themselves accessible to their constituents.
“. That Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji should consider some of the senior information officers in the state ministry of information for the position of PS so as to encourage staff of the ministry to give their best.
” The congress sympathized with the family of former Deputy Vice Chancellor of Ekiti State University (EKSU), Professor Olorunfemi Olaofe who was kidnapped and later found dead and called on security agencies to fish out the perpetrators without delay.
“The congress also condoled with the family of the renowned singer, Onyeka Owenu who was also a Journalist.”, the communique said.
