As we stand on the threshold of International Women’s Day 2025, I am filled with a profound sense of hope and unwavering belief in the power of women to shape our world.

Since the beginning of my professional career, I have witnessed firsthand the resilience, strength, and brilliance of women in journalism and beyond.

As a Vice President of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, B Zone (Southwest) and a broadcast journalist, I’ve had the privilege of amplifying their voices and advocating for their rights via various programs and outreach geared towards this purpose.

This year’s International Women’s Day Themed For ALL Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment is not just a moment of reflection, but a call to action.

We must relentlessly pursue equity and equality, particularly within the media landscape.

The stories we tell, the narratives we shape, and the platforms we provide must reflect the diverse realities and contributions of women.

We must dismantle the barriers that hinder progress and champion their leadership at every level.

Press freedom is not just a professional right; it is a fundamental pillar of a just and equitable society. When women journalists are free to report without fear or prejudice, they illuminate the truth, challenge the status quo, and hold power accountable.

We must protect and defend this freedom, ensuring that every woman’s voice can be heard.

My experiences organizing and speaking at women empowerment programs across Nigeria have reinforced my conviction: when women are empowered, communities thrive.

Let us commit to building a future where every woman has the opportunity to reach her full potential, where her voice is valued, and her contributions are celebrated.

On this International Women’s Day, I urge every woman to embrace her power, to stand in solidarity with her sisters, and to continue to break barriers. Let us work together to create a world where equity and equality are not aspirations, but realities.

Let us be the change we wish to see, and let our voices resonate with the hope and determination that will shape a brighter future for all.
