An Ifa Orisa Teacher,Counsellor,
Iyalode Funmilayo Modupeola Ifakankunola has declared that human Sacrifice is forbidden in Yoruba Tradition
Ifakankunola who is also a student in guidance counseling /teaching of Yoruba Culture and Traditions decried some misconceptions about the Tradition , saying Yoruba Tradition stipulated that human killing is not needed to achieve success and be wealthy.
The traditional religion adherence, graduate of Biology at the University of Ibadan stated that Yoruba Spirituality prohibits killing of human beings whatsoever.
This is just as Ekiti State government recently rewarded a traditionalist for exposing a ritualist in the state.
A traditionalist, Adesua Ifafemi, had exposed a 23-year-old man, identified as Solomon to the Ekiti State Police Command for attempting to use his 6-year- old nephew for ritual purposes.
The state Governor Biodun Oyebanji, through the Bureau of Community Communications in Ado-Ekiti rewarded the traditionalist with a cash gift.
Director General, Bureau of Community Communications, Mary Omotosho explained that the governor was impressed by the kind act of the traditionalist to expose the ritualist adding that the state government is taking stringent measures to end the social vice.
The government called on traditional rulers, religious leaders, parents and residents of the state to take a stand against the menace, commended the Nigerian Police for their efforts in combating the crime.
“We are having a conversation with the Traditionalists and Herbalists through their associations to help us curb the activities of ritualists in Ekiti State. Mr Ifafemi’s bold step of not carrying out his client’s wish in using that child for rituals has passed a strong message to others.
“We want other traditionalists to see it as something that is very dignifying and that they are also helping to sanitize our society. The governor asked that we should appreciate and celebrate him. We want to thank him for showing truly that Ekiti people are Omoluabi with contentment .”
Giving Clarity on Yoruba Spirituality and the disposition to Sacrifice. Ifakankunola in a Press statement made available to NewsHereandThere stated that:
“When I decided to leave Christianity for Isese, my father asked me to promise that I would not engage in human ritual killings.
“I spent hours explaining to him that Isese strictly prohibits killing humans for any reason. There is no Odu Ifa that states Orunmila or any of our Irunmole uses human beings for sacrifices.
“It is exhausting to see ritual killings continually attributed to us, especially when there is no evidence that any true Babalawo, Babalorisa, or Iyanifa has ever participated in such acts. We want to make it clear that anyone who claims to be an Onisese and is caught committing this heinous crime should be thoroughly investigated and punished. We implore people not to jump to conclusions and associate them with our tradition.
“Our ancestors have passed down a treasure of inexhaustible wealth in Isese, and we do not need human rituals or sacrifices to achieve financial. Isese is against human killing,Ifakankunola said.
