Eight months after a 61-year-old retired teacher was found dead inside the toilet of her home in Abeokuta, the Ogun State Police Command has arrested her alleged killer.
The victim, Mrs Adedotun Adeteju Oluwaseun, fondly called Mama Teacher, was allegedly murdered at her residence in Agbaakin Emere, Bode-Olude, Abeokuta, on February 27, 2026, a day after she returned from a retirement celebration organised by her colleagues.
Her body was discovered on February 28 inside her toilet.
Following sustained investigation, the case was transferred from Bode-Olude Division to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Eleweran, leading to the arrest of the principal suspect, Saburi Lateef Ayinde, popularly known as “OKI-OCEAN”, on October 19.
In a confessional video obtained by DAILY POST, Ayinde gave a chilling account of how he killed the retired teacher over a financial dispute.
He said he had entrusted the deceased with N3.45 million for safekeeping and she had promised to add N1.55 million to make it N5 million for him to purchase a vehicle.
“On the 27th of February, Friday, I went to meet Mama Teacher at her home in the evening at about 6pm and asked her about the money. I have always been asking her about it,” he said.
“I kept N3,450,000 with her and she promised to add N1,550,000 to it to make it N5 million so I can get a car. But when I kept asking, she kept dribbling me.”
According to him, an argument broke out when he demanded his money back.
“When I said if she’s not willing to borrow me the money, let her just give me back my money, she replied, ‘I will shout on you o, get out from my apartment.’”
“I reminded her that she had promised to give me my money but she insisted she was going to shout on me. She went to the toilet and I went to meet her there.”
The suspect confessed to picking up a cutlass he saw on the ground and following her.
“I held it and asked her to give me my money. As she was about coming out, I drew her back and I macheted her with the cutlass. I macheted her neck, hand, laps and she fell and I carried her, placing her on the toilet seat,” he said.
He said a neighbour was outside and he did not want anyone to see him, so he stayed back a little.
“She was trying to talk, and I went to the parlour to sit. I was regretting my action. I’m not happy that I killed her. I didn’t tell anyone about what happened but I felt bad about it every day.”
He also confessed to taking the deceased’s phone after noticing it had no password.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, said detectives were able to establish and connect facts through the stolen phone.
“We could establish and connect facts as the phone was tracked and led us to the suspect. He will soon be charged to court when all facts are cleared,” he said.
Babaseyi said the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the investigating officers for their persistence and professionalism.
The Command urged residents to be security conscious and avoid taking laws into their own hands.
“We enjoin the good people of Ogun to be conscious about their security, know who you speak to or confide in. Don’t take laws into your hands as you may regret your action. Be patient and don’t be quick to anger,” he added.
