GBV: Ekiti SSG tasks NCSDC on protection of girl child 

The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr Habibat Omolara Adubiaro has urged the Nigeria Civil Service Defense Corps (NCSDC) to adequately secure lives and property in the state as well as ensure the safety of pupils and children in both primary and secondary schools

Dr. Adubiaro spoke  while playing host to the women officers of the NCSDC in her office in Ado-Ekiti, state capital.

The SSG urged the members of the security outfit to particularly protect the girl child from molestation, rape and other Gender Based Violent (GBV) acts. She recalled that there were common incidences of rape and molestation of the young girls when she was serving the state at the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) sometimes ago. She alleged that unfortunately, Teachers are also fall victim of this evil perpetrators.

Mrs. Adubiaro therefore urged the security outfit to work closely with the school authorities and other relevant stakeholders to stem the tide. She cited the use of perimeter fencing as part of measures to prevent hoodlums from invading the school and wreaking havoc on the young girls.

Responding, DSC Owoola Olabisi and also the commander of Female strike force in NCDSC, Ekiti who led the team of female officers, said that her team had visited the office of the SSG so as to inform her of the measures they have been taking to curb GBV acts and other forms of insecurity in the state.

Owoola noted that some schools in the metropolis of Ado-Ekiti have become hideouts for the hoodlums. She mentioned schools such as the Olaoluwa Muslim Grammar school, Ado Community School, Anglican Grammar school and a Primary School within the Olaoluwa Muslim Grammar school premises as flashpoints.which the security unit has been working on.

She also urged the state government to support the security outfit so that they could be more effective in discharging their duties.

Responding Owoola on behalf of the state government,
Dr. Adubiaro promised that Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji will ensure that their well being and welfare are taken care of.
She said: “The state Governor is passionate about your duty to protect our girls and our state. He will ensure that you are supported in all ramifications “.

While also applauding the efforts of security operatives in the state, Adubiaro noted that Ekiti State is one of the most peaceful state in Nigeria among the 36 states including Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
