Students and academic staff members of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) have poured encomiums on the Vice-Chancellor (VC) , Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina and his management team for bringing up the online teaching initiative and appointing the Director of Quality Assurance to head the online teaching committee for the students during the four weeks’ break ordered by the Federal Government for all Universities on the need to peacefully and successfully carry out the recent general elections.

This was just as three  students of the institution, Olugbade Damilola Esther, Ajibade Covenant Adenike and Tife Oluwani, clinched scholarship to complete their studies.

Contrary to alleged report from a certain online blog, which alleged that students lamented the poor outing of the exercise, ocassioned by poor network, many students welcomed the idea and expressed gratitude to the VC and his management team for ensuring that teaching via the various online platforms, to cover their syllabuses, went on during the break. They were particularly glad that the initiative would lead to their graduation from their respective academic programmes in record time.

Most of them said occasional network hitches notwithstanding, having online classes at the comfort of their homes was a very progressive initiative which the University management should be applauded for. They boasted that many other students from other varsities who didn’t make use of the online teaching during the break, envied them.

Some of them have these to say :
“I want to really appreciate our amiable Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina and his management team for encouraging the Directorate of Quality Assurance, headed by Prof. Ibrahim Adeyanju, for bringing up the online teaching initiative. This is a laudable development that has ensured that we were not idle and engage in frivolous activities during the four weeks’ holiday ordered by the government because of the general elections. This is a very good development, ” Dapo Ogunrole of the Department of Economics and Development Studies, said.

“The online teaching programme which the management brought to us during the four- week election holiday, is a great idea. In fact, it has made other students from other Universities who didn’t do online teaching during that holiday to envy those of us who are students of FUOYE. And l am very proud of the Management of my University ably led by our Daddy, the VC, Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina. Theirs is a progressively minded and exemplary team, ” Afeniforo Abimbola Oluwaseun , 100L of the Department of Political Science, said.

This is a very great idea that has made us very proud as students. We are indeed very grateful for the initiative because it shows that the VC and his team have the best interest of we , the students, at heart. The initiative has ensured that we were not idle during the break and go into any activity that could ruin our lives, and also more importantly, we were able to learn and cover up our styllabuses while other universities who didn’t do such online training are far behind us now in this regard. For this progress, we thank the VC and his team for a job well done.”

While also appreciating the University management and the VC for providing very conducive learning environment and bringing up every initiative to give the best to students and staff, a 400L, student of Business Administration,

The academic staff who carried out the online teaching in high spirit, have equally expressed their gratitude to the VC for the prompt payment of the emoluments for procuring data for the exercise and wished the VC and his management team greater success in future engagements.

Meanwhile, the Director of FUOYE Quality Assurance, Prof. Ibrahim Adeyanju who supervised the online teaching , has also scored the performance of the initiative very high. While lauding the painstaking efforts of the ICT Deputy Director, Mr. Samson Durojaiye and his hardworking team in providing the technical assistance, He said in spite of the challenges encountered which mainly bother on very occasional network issues, the excercise has had great and positive impact on both the lecturers and students with students being the better for it. Prof. Adeyanju revealed that given the huge success recorded during the online teaching exercise, the VC has graciously approved that there should be blended learning, which combines physical and virtual approaches towards a more effective teaching for the students in the coming semester. His words: ” This exercise has been greatly rewarding. And our students have benefitted greatly from it.
The University management enlisted students who helped monitor the online teaching and gave useful feedback to improve the proposed blended learning. This laudable exercise also shows clearly that our amiable VC is progressive and forward thinking because we are currently in the 2022/23 session not 2021/22 except for the stream A students who are in 2nd semester 2021/22.
This means our session will normalize into 2023/24 by October, 2024 and will not be interrupted again based on the promises of the President-Elect,”
